Nobody had Tykee Smith this high, and it is not close. The Eagles reached 47 spots to get him at pick 50.
They lost the exchange badly enough to drag the whole class down. They will regret leaving interior defensive lineman for another day if the season turns on it.
The Worthy steal is the beam this whole class leans on.
Bottom line, they will need several of these picks to beat their grades just to break even, and interior defensive lineman is still a hole.
Pick-by-Pick
This one needs a full-page explanation: Tykee Smith in slot 50, miles early. The roster fit checks out.
They paid sticker price for Chris Braswell in pick 54, and that is fine. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
The board fumbled Xavier Worthy all the way to pick No. 75, and they scooped it up. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Mike Sainristil at the Round 4 slot is a first-round grade at a bargain-bin price, no notes. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Value said wait; Drake Nugent in Round 4, Pick 29 says they were not listening. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
A market-rate quarterback, with the board and the slot shaking hands on Luke McCaffrey. A need, and now a little less of one.
Good things come to war rooms that wait, and Tommy Eichenberg at the Round 5 slot is the proof. It adds depth where they could use a little.
A real head-scratcher, Isaiah Davis in slot 163 is miles ahead of his ranking. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
A straight-up fair deal on Jaylan Ford at pick No. 178, value and slot in agreement. A want more than a need, though you can never have too many.
Josh Proctor in the 179th overall pick is early enough to raise a brow, if not a full objection. It fills a real need, too.
A big swing on Joshua Cephus at the 203rd pick, well ahead of any board in the building. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Sam Hartman in No. 219 is a bargain the rest of the room will envy. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
Trevor Keegan slid further than he should have, and pick 243 is lovely value for the offensive lineman. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Nathaniel Watson at Round 7, Pick 31 is the sort of value that quietly wins a weekend. Stacking talent where they were already deep.
