It is the swing that defines the weekend: Evan Williams in pick No. 249, a good 47 spots before the room expected him. Good, not great, and the B says as much.
However the rest shakes out, Lassiter at that price is a win they earned. They covered a lot of ground and still skipped quarterback, which is a strange place to end up. On the needs board they went 7 of 9, with cornerback the one that mattered most.
Nearly every premium pick went to that side of the ball.
Solid rather than spectacular, and there is nothing wrong with that.
Pick-by-Pick
Dallas Turner at slot 28 is a sound buy, the sort that quietly helps a class. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
A slide stopped in pick No. 45, with Edgerrin Cooper worth more than the price. Depth more than a fix, but depth they can use.
Kamari Lassiter in the Round 2 slot is the kind of fall that makes a whole class. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Good price on Tyleik Williams in the 97th pick, a hair ahead of his grade with no real quibbles. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Jaheim Bell in the 137th overall pick is exactly on the number, no argument either way. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
Ainias Smith at pick 156 is right where the board had him, plain and simple. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
They took LaDarius Henderson at par in No. 172, which is nothing to complain about. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
Curtis Jacobs at the 178th overall pick is the kind of overdraft that needs everything to break right. They added to a strength when a need was still open elsewhere.
A real head-scratcher, Evan Williams in the Round 7 slot is miles ahead of his ranking. It fills a real need, too.
