Somewhere a scout is still blinking. The Eagles spent the 21st overall pick on Jackson Powers-Johnson, a name the board had a full 30 spots lower. Nothing here to lose sleep over; call it a B-.
If one pick saves this weekend, it is Randolph Jr.. They covered a lot of ground and still skipped interior defensive lineman, which is a strange place to end up. They left with cornerback solved and the rest of the wish list mostly ticked off.
Their trades came out a wash either way.
In sum, a sturdy weekend with one asterisk, the interior defensive lineman spot they never got to.
Pick-by-Pick
In No. 21 they get a blindside protector, though the board says they badly overpaid.
In the 22nd overall pick they get a lockdown presence outside, though they paid up to get him. The biggest hole, addressed.
Tykee Smith in the 97th pick is fair value, right on his grade. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
A reach on Javon Baker in pick 170; the board had better options right there. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Renardo Green at Round 5, Pick 35 is the steal of the weekend, a first-round talent at a bargain-bin price. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
You do not let an edge rusher like Keith Randolph Jr. reach pick No. 178 and blink. They did not. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Ethan Driskell at slot 199 is a sensible buy, a touch better than market for the offensive lineman. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
A premium they did not need to pay, Stefon Thompson a notch or two before his time. Need-wise, a curious use of the pick.
