Boards are made to be trusted, and the Eagles shredded theirs for Christian Jones. He came off 38 spots early, and the room will hear about it. Call it a sensible B, earned the boring way.
They covered a lot of ground and still skipped edge rusher, which is a strange place to end up. The Estime steal is the beam this whole class leans on.
Small wins on the phones, but wins all the same.
All told, a draft that does its job without fuss, and there is real value in that.
Pick-by-Pick
In the Round 1 slot they get a ballhawk on the outside. It fills the loudest need on the roster.
T'Vondre Sweat at No. 50 jumps the queue by a touch more than is comfortable. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
A premium they did not need to pay, Payton Wilson a notch or two before his time. A minor need, but a need all the same.
No edge and no loss on Johnny Wilson in the 71st pick; it is a wash and a sensible one. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
They reached a country mile for Javon Foster at slot 97, and the board is aghast. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
Quietly one of the better values of the day, Audric Estime at the 107th overall pick. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
They liked James Williams enough to skip the value, taking him in No. 126. A need, and now a little less of one.
Theo Johnson at the 139th overall pick is a conviction pick that outran the value. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
They left a pile of value on the table to take Jaylan Ford this early at Round 5, Pick 24. A luxury on a unit that was already in good shape.
Christian Jones in the 170th pick is a bet on their own eyes over everyone else's grade. The roster fit checks out.
