There is conviction, and then there is this. The Eagles took Isaiah Neyor a full 63 picks ahead of where the board had him, an overdraft steep enough that it colors the whole weekend. A dependable weekend that grades out a B.
The Gray pick is fine in a vacuum, less so with edge rusher, quarterback and other spots still on the board. Leaving edge rusher unaddressed is the roster risk they will have to answer for in the fall.
Guyton falling to them is the kind of break a good board is built to catch. They squeezed a little extra out of every move they made.
Solid rather than spectacular, and there is nothing wrong with that.
Pick-by-Pick
In No. 22 they get a press-man option on the boundary. It fills the loudest need on the roster.
Quietly one of the better values of the day, Tyler Guyton at the 50th pick. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
They paid sticker price for Jeremiah Trotter Jr. in the 56th overall pick, and that is fine. A minor itch, scratched.
Good things come to war rooms that wait, and T'Vondre Sweat at pick 66 is the proof. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
A slide stopped in Round 4, Pick 3, with Zak Zinter worth more than the price. The roster fit checks out.
They paid up for James Williams at pick No. 125 when waiting would have done the job. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
Hard to square with the roster. With positions of obvious need still on the board, Cedric Gray adds a linebacker and leaves edge rusher, quarterback and other spots untouched.
The board screamed and they did not listen, reaching into the next round for Isaiah Neyor. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
