Somewhere a scout is still blinking. The Eagles spent pick No. 197 on Isaiah Neyor, a name the board had a full 36 spots lower. Some smart calls, some head-scratchers, and a C in the wash.
Overpaying at the table undid a lot of the good work elsewhere. That is a linebacker worth more than the slot they spent on him, plainly. They covered a lot of ground and still skipped quarterback, which is a strange place to end up.
In the end, one you will need a couple of seasons to truly judge.
Pick-by-Pick
In pick No. 22 they get a potential shutdown corner at fair value. It fills the loudest need on the roster.
Quietly one of the better values of the day, Tyler Guyton at No. 50. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
No edge and no loss on Edgerrin Cooper in the 54th pick; it is a wash and a sensible one. Useful body for a position without much behind the starter.
A wild overpay on Darius Robinson in pick 100, the sort that defines a class for the wrong reasons. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
A reach on James Williams in the Round 4 slot; the board had better options right there. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
The board had Javon Foster higher than Round 5, Pick 1, and the offensive lineman fell to them anyway. The roster fit checks out.
A linebacker of that caliber at Round 5, Pick 17 is the definition of value, full stop. Depth on depth, at a spot that was hardly crying out.
Value said wait; Jordan Jefferson in pick 160 says they were not listening. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
A swing that ignored the value entirely, Isaiah Neyor well ahead of where he belonged. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
They took Christian Jones at par in pick No. 202, which is nothing to complain about. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
