The Eagles bet big and early on Jaylen Harrell, 41 picks ahead of the board. Bold does not always mean right. Good, not great, and the B- says as much.
They will regret leaving quarterback for another day if the season turns on it. The Guyton steal is the beam this whole class leans on. They went 6 of 9 on their needs, which is most of what a draft is for.
The weekend tilted hard toward the defense.
In sum, a sturdy weekend with one asterisk, the quarterback spot they never got to.
Pick-by-Pick
In slot 22 they get a potential shutdown corner at fair value. Exactly the need they had to hit.
A tidy bit of business in the Round 2 slot, where Tyler Guyton graded well above the range. A need, and now a little less of one.
No edge and no loss on Edgerrin Cooper in the 54th overall pick; it is a wash and a sensible one. A minor itch, scratched.
A reasonable price with a little left over, Zak Zinter in pick No. 97. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
James Williams in the 137th pick is exactly on the number, no argument either way. The roster fit checks out.
Jaylan Ford at Round 5, Pick 24 is the kind of overdraft that needs everything to break right. It is more luxury than necessity; they were already set here.
Value said wait; Jaylen Harrell in Round 5, Pick 34 says they were not listening. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
A big swing on Christian Jones at the 171st pick, well ahead of any board in the building. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
They paid a round early for Jordan Jefferson in slot 175, more than the board wanted. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
A swing that ignored the value entirely, Isaiah Neyor well ahead of where he belonged. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
