The Trevor Etienne pick is the one that will follow the Eagles into the fall. They took him 136 spots ahead of his grade, and the board is not shy about saying so. Call it a sensible B-, earned the boring way.
Nelson falling to them is the kind of break a good board is built to catch. They covered a lot of ground and still skipped cornerback, which is a strange place to end up. The dealing nudged the ledger their way without much fuss.
On the needs board they went 8 of 9, with edge rusher the one that mattered most.
Good work on the whole, with cornerback the one box left unchecked.
Pick-by-Pick
In slot 26 they get a premier pass rusher at fair value. It fills the loudest need on the roster.
Donovan Jackson at pick 55 is a clear overpay, with better names still on the board. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Nick Emmanwori at the 88th overall pick is neither steal nor reach, just the going rate. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
This one needs a full-page explanation: Elic Ayomanor in the Round 3 slot, miles early. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Riley Leonard at the 122nd pick is a first-round grade at a bargain-bin price, no notes. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
A top-tier offensive lineman at a bargain, Jack Nelson in Round 4, Pick 24, plain and simple. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
A big swing on Bryson Nesbit at slot 137, well ahead of any board in the building. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
They paid a round early for Tonka Hemingway in pick No. 156, more than the board wanted. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
They left a pile of value on the table to take Cody Simon this early at pick 157. It adds depth where they could use a little.
The board screamed and they did not listen, reaching into the next round for Trevor Etienne. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
A clean, defensible pick in the 165th pick with a little surplus value in Antwane Wells Jr.. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
They took J.C. Davis at par in Round 6, Pick 20, which is nothing to complain about. A need, and now a little less of one.
