If confidence were a draft strategy, the Eagles would have aced it. Trevor Etienne at No. 156 is 141 spots clear of where he belonged. A sturdy weekend that grades out a B-.
Leaving cornerback unaddressed is the roster risk they will have to answer for in the fall. However the rest shakes out, Leonard at that price is a win they earned. The roster is better shaped than it was, with edge rusher chief among the fixes.
Add it up and it is a good, unfussy class.
Pick-by-Pick
In Round 1, Pick 23 they get a quarterback's worst nightmare at fair value. The biggest hole, addressed.
They jumped the gun on Donovan Jackson, taking him earlier than his grade liked. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Nick Emmanwori in slot 83 is fair value, right on his grade. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Elic Ayomanor in No. 86 is a bet on their own eyes over everyone else's grade. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Taking Riley Leonard in the 121st pick is close to grand larceny; a quarterback that good had no business lasting this long. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
Trevor Etienne at pick 156 is the kind of overdraft that needs everything to break right. A need, and now a little less of one.
Value said wait; J.C. Davis in slot 161 says they were not listening. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
They left a pile of value on the table to take Cody Simon this early at pick No. 165. It thickens a room that could stand to be thicker.
