The weekend has a hole in the middle of it named interior defensive lineman, a need the Eagles walked right past. Call it a sensible B, earned the boring way.
The Simpson steal is the beam this whole class leans on. If Ulofoshio pans out, nobody remembers the price. If not, this is the pick they hear about.
On the needs board they went 5 of 9, with cornerback the one that mattered most. The back end got a real overhaul.
All told, a solid class that does its job everywhere but interior defensive lineman.
Pick-by-Pick
No edge and no loss on Kamari Lassiter in the 22nd overall pick; it is a wash and a sensible one. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
A tidy bit of business in the 50th pick, where Kamren Kinchens graded well above the range. A need, and now a little less of one.
A straight-up fair deal on Jackson Powers-Johnson at slot 54, value and slot in agreement. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
A market-rate safety, with the board and the slot shaking hands on Tykee Smith. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Edefuan Ulofoshio at pick No. 137 jumps the queue by a touch more than is comfortable. A quiet depth add at a thin-ish spot.
They read the board right and Jaylin Simpson was the payoff at pick 163. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
They paid up for Michael Barrett at the Round 5 slot when waiting would have done the job. A luxury on a unit that was already in good shape.
Javon Baker in No. 178 is exactly on the number, no argument either way. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
No drama and no debate, Myles Cole went about where he belonged in the 243rd overall pick. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
