The tape said wait; the Eagles did not. Rylie Mills went at pick 249, a good 157 picks before the board was ready. The bottom line is a respectable B-.
They will regret leaving interior defensive lineman for another day if the season turns on it. On the needs board they went 6 of 9, with cornerback the one that mattered most.
In short, they left a little better than they arrived, which is the whole idea.
Pick-by-Pick
In the Round 1 slot they get a ballhawk on the outside, though they paid up to get him. Exactly the need they had to hit.
Brian Thomas Jr. at slot 45 is a clear overpay, with better names still on the board. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
No edge and no loss on Tyler Guyton in Round 2, Pick 28; it is a wash and a sensible one. It fills a real need, too.
Audric Estime in No. 97 is the kind of reach that only looks good if he outplays it. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
They jumped the gun on Payton Wilson, taking him earlier than his grade liked. A minor need, but a need all the same.
The board had cheaper options than Ben Sinnott at the 156th pick, and it noticed. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Zy Alexander at the 172nd overall pick is a sound buy, the sort that quietly helps a class. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
They reached into another round for Zion Tupuola-Fetui, and the board is nowhere close to agreeing. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Value said wait; Rylie Mills in Round 7, Pick 29 says they were not listening. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
