The war room fell hard for Spencer Rattler, and it showed at the Round 3 slot: 48 picks ahead of a board that had other ideas.
However the rest shakes out, Rouse at that price is a win they earned. On the needs board they went 9 of 9, with interior defensive lineman the one that mattered most. Small wins on the phones, but wins all the same.
The offense got the lion's share of the attention.
Bottom line, more hits than misses and a roster nudged the right way.
Pick-by-Pick
In Round 1, Pick 10 they get a home-run threat at receiver. The biggest hole, addressed.
Cooper Beebe in the 48th pick is fair value, right on his grade. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
A real head-scratcher, Spencer Rattler in the Round 3 slot is miles ahead of his ranking. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
The board had cheaper options than Calen Bullock at slot 72, and it noticed. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Nice patience on MarShawn Lloyd, who had no business lasting to No. 107. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
They paid up for Theo Johnson at pick No. 111 when waiting would have done the job. It fills a real need, too.
Isaac Guerendo at slot 116 jumps the queue by a touch more than is comfortable. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
Jordan Jefferson at the 135th overall pick is the pick scouts circle, and not in a good way. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
They jumped the gun on Jalyx Hunt, taking him earlier than his grade liked. The roster fit checks out.
Walter Rouse in the 183rd pick is a gift, value that borders on unfair. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
They talked themselves into Daequan Hardy at the Round 7 slot, and the board did not agree. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
