Somebody took the Eagles to the cleaners. The deals they made bled real value, and the whole class wears it.
The Rice pick is the one the value grade keeps tripping over. For all the activity, interior defensive lineman went untouched, which is hard to explain.
Still falling to them is the kind of break a good board is built to catch.
In the end, one you will need a couple of seasons to truly judge.
Pick-by-Pick
In the 15th overall pick they get a press-man option on the boundary. It fills the loudest need on the roster.
They paid up for Christian Haynes at the 53rd pick when waiting would have done the job. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Brenden Rice at No. 76 is the pick scouts circle, and not in a good way. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Nothing to complain about; Cedric Gray went a shade earlier than his grade, which is fine. It adds depth where they could use a little.
They took Theo Johnson at par in pick 120, which is nothing to complain about. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
They jumped the gun on Isaac Guerendo, taking him earlier than his grade liked. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Jalyx Hunt at Round 4, Pick 36 jumps the queue by a touch more than is comfortable. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
By-the-book stuff, Luke McCaffrey at slot 145 squarely in line with his ranking. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
No drama and no debate, Tykee Smith went about where he belonged in pick No. 161. A need, and now a little less of one.
A market-rate safety, with the board and the slot shaking hands on Tyler Owens. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
A tidy bit of business in the 257th overall pick, where Tarheeb Still graded well above the range. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
