The board owed the Eagles one, and it paid up: Ja'Lynn Polk, the No. 73 name on the board, sitting there at the 101st pick like a gift left on the doorstep. Call it a C and check back in two years.
The dealing is the wound this class cannot quite close. The Gray pick reads as want over need, and the roster will feel it at interior defensive lineman and quarterback. That interior defensive lineman hole did not close this weekend, and it was the biggest one on the wall.
So much rides on Terrion Arnold that the real verdict is a season or two away.
Pick-by-Pick
In the 22nd pick they get a press-man option on the boundary. Exactly the need they had to hit.
They took Edgerrin Cooper at par in slot 50, which is nothing to complain about. A minor need, but a need all the same.
A market-rate offensive lineman, with the board and the slot shaking hands on Christian Haynes. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Ja'Lynn Polk in the Round 4 slot is a gift, value that borders on unfair. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Cam Hart at Round 4, Pick 3 is neither steal nor reach, just the going rate. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
They bypassed pressing needs at interior defensive lineman and quarterback to take Cedric Gray, a linebacker that was not the priority.
By-the-book stuff, Isaac Guerendo at pick 128 squarely in line with his ranking. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
A straight-up fair deal on Xavier Thomas at pick No. 161, value and slot in agreement. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Quietly one of the better values of the day, Tykee Smith at Round 5, Pick 35. The roster fit checks out.
A clean, defensible pick in slot 210 with a little surplus value in Erick All. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
