This is the pick they will still be bragging about in July: Jordan Travis, the No. 173 name on the board, stolen at Round 6, Pick 35.
With edge rusher, interior defensive lineman and other spots unsolved, spending premium capital on linebacker is the choice that costs them. They will regret leaving edge rusher for another day if the season turns on it. Cornerback is handled and the depth chart looks a good deal healthier for it.
A competent weekend that does not make headlines and does not need to.
Pick-by-Pick
In pick 22 they get an island corner. The biggest hole, addressed.
They paid sticker price for Junior Colson in Round 2, Pick 18, and that is fine. It thickens a room that could stand to be thicker.
Hard to square with the roster. With positions of obvious need still on the board, Jeremiah Trotter Jr. adds a linebacker and leaves edge rusher, interior defensive lineman and other spots untouched.
Taking Jaden Hicks in the 98th overall pick is close to grand larceny; a safety that good had no business lasting this long. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Kalen King at pick No. 161 is daylight robbery; nobody expected him to last. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
They robbed the room for Mason McCormick here, a fall nobody at the table saw coming. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Luke McCaffrey at No. 172 is a first-round grade at a bargain-bin price, no notes. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Steal is underselling it; Jordan Travis at the 210th pick is a heist with the alarm still ringing. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
