The Eagles spent real capital to be 33 picks early on Jaylan Ford, and the board is going to hold them to it. It does the job without flash, and the B- reflects it.
For all the activity, edge rusher went untouched, which is hard to explain. Stockpiling next year's capital is patient, if unglamorous, asset work.
Nothing here to lose sleep over, and plenty to feel decent about.
Pick-by-Pick
In the Round 1 slot they get a lockdown presence outside. Exactly the need they had to hit.
Edgerrin Cooper at pick No. 53 is a sensible buy, a touch better than market for the linebacker. A minor itch, scratched.
A conviction pick on Christian Haynes at the 57th overall pick that the board grades a round light. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
No drama and no debate, Theo Johnson went about where he belonged in the 126th pick. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
A reasonable price with a little left over, Roger Rosengarten in pick 139. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
They talked themselves into Jordan Jefferson at Round 5, Pick 25, and the board did not agree. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
A premium they did not need to pay, Tanor Bortolini a notch or two before his time. It fills a real need, too.
Jaylan Ford at the Round 5 slot is the kind of overdraft that needs everything to break right. A want dressed up as a pick, at a spot they had covered.
They went early on Frank Gore Jr. in No. 210, and the value did not follow. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
A big swing on Jordan Whittington at the 220th overall pick, well ahead of any board in the building. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Dominique Hampton at pick 222 jumps the queue by a touch more than is comfortable. The roster fit checks out.
