The war room fell hard for Matt Lee, and it showed at the Round 7 slot: 35 picks ahead of a board that had other ideas. They moved the roster forward and banked a B- for it.
For all the activity, edge rusher went untouched, which is hard to explain. Landing Rosengarten that late papers over a lot of smaller sins.
In sum, a sturdy weekend with one asterisk, the edge rusher spot they never got to.
Pick-by-Pick
Kamari Lassiter at the 39th overall pick is right where the board had him, plain and simple. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
A market-rate linebacker, with the board and the slot shaking hands on Edgerrin Cooper. It thickens a room that could stand to be thicker.
No drama and no debate, Javon Bullard went about where he belonged in Round 2, Pick 18. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
A reasonable price with a little left over, Devontez Walker in pick No. 73. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Value said wait; Zak Zinter in the 86th pick says they were not listening. The roster fit checks out.
The board screamed and they did not listen, reaching into the next round for Theo Johnson. A need, and now a little less of one.
Quietly one of the better values of the day, Roger Rosengarten at the Round 5 slot. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
They paid up for Curtis Jacobs at slot 187 when waiting would have done the job. A want more than a need, though you can never have too many.
They reached a country mile for Matt Lee at pick No. 240, and the board is aghast. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
