The war room fell hard for Jamari Thrash, and it showed at the Round 5 slot: 33 picks ahead of a board that had other ideas.
That interior defensive lineman hole did not close this weekend, and it was the biggest one on the wall. On value alone, Wilson makes the weekend a net positive. Cornerback was the priority and it is no longer a question, which is most of the job.
Nearly every premium pick went to that side of the ball.
Nothing here to lose sleep over, and plenty to feel decent about.
Pick-by-Pick
In the Round 1 slot they get a disruptor off the edge. Exactly the need they had to hit.
Quietly one of the better values of the day, Nate Wiggins at the 45th overall pick. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
A slide stopped in slot 60, with Jordan Morgan worth more than the price. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
Bucky Irving at pick No. 97 is a sensible buy, a touch better than market for the running back. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
A big swing on Jamari Thrash at Round 5, Pick 1, well ahead of any board in the building. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Nice patience on Payton Wilson, who had no business lasting to the 156th pick. It adds depth where they could use a little.
They read the board right and Ashton Gillotte was the payoff at the Round 5 slot. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
A swing that ignored the value entirely, Dallin Holker well ahead of where he belonged. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
Zion Nelson at slot 249 is the pick scouts circle, and not in a good way. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
