Every swap seemed to tilt away from the Eagles, and the value they bled adds up to real damage. The process wobbled, and the D is where it lands.
Caleb Williams is the bet, and the class will be judged on how it pays off. For all the activity, interior defensive lineman went untouched, which is hard to explain.
The Bertrand reach is the anchor dragging on the value grade. Franklin at that cost is the sort of edge that compounds over a roster.
A rough weekend that leaves the roster with more questions than answers.
Pick-by-Pick
Caleb Williams at the Round 1 slot is neither steal nor reach, just the going rate. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
No drama and no debate, Tyler Nubin went about where he belonged in pick No. 34. A need, and now a little less of one.
Trey Benson at slot 68 is right where the board had him, plain and simple. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
They read the board right and Johnny Wilson was the payoff at Round 3, Pick 24. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
A reasonable price with a little left over, Zak Zinter in pick 97. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
They went early on Tommy Eichenberg in the 118th pick, and the value did not follow. Useful body for a position without much behind the starter.
Cam Hart at No. 137 is a sensible buy, a touch better than market for the cornerback. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
They paid sticker price for Cedric Johnson in the 156th overall pick, and that is fine. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
They paid a round early for JD Bertrand in pick 178, more than the board wanted. Pure best-available; the position was not exactly begging.
Braiden McGregor at the 201st pick nudges the ledger their way without any fuss. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Steal is underselling it; Zakhari Franklin at No. 248 is a heist with the alarm still ringing. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
