Call it a hunch or call it a gamble, but the Eagles spent Round 2, Pick 22 on Jaden Hicks, a name most had 53 spots down the list. They moved the roster forward and banked a B for it.
However the rest shakes out, Holker at that price is a win they earned. If this class has a fault line, it runs straight through offensive lineman.
Add it up and it is a good, unfussy class.
Pick-by-Pick
Ennis Rakestraw Jr. at the 37th pick is right where the board had him, plain and simple. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Jeremiah Trotter Jr. at pick No. 50 is a conviction pick that outran the value. A minor itch, scratched.
A big swing on Jaden Hicks at slot 54, well ahead of any board in the building. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
They let Ja'Tavion Sanders come to them and pounced at No. 62. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
T'Vondre Sweat slid further than he should have, and the 69th overall pick is lovely value for the interior defensive lineman. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
A real head-scratcher, MarShawn Lloyd in pick 110 is miles ahead of his ranking. It fills a real need, too.
Marcus Rosemy-Jacksaint slipping to the 160th overall pick is the kind of luck good rooms make for themselves. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
The board had Keith Randolph Jr. higher than the Round 5 slot, and the edge rusher fell to them anyway. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Somehow Dallin Holker was still sitting there in No. 171, and they pounced on premier tight end value. A need, and now a little less of one.
Dadrion Taylor-Demerson is a better player than the 173rd pick suggests; smart patience, rewarded. The roster fit checks out.
