Somehow the biggest item on the list survived the weekend. The Packers never addressed edge rusher, and it is the kind of gap that lingers. Good, not great, and the B says as much.
Sainristil at that cost is the sort of edge that compounds over a roster. Every board in the league had Pratt lower, and that gap is the story.
The dealing nudged the ledger their way without much fuss.
A workmanlike haul that should hold up just fine.
Pick-by-Pick
In the 27th pick they get a building block for the line. A clean fit for the roster.
They took Payton Wilson at par in the Round 2 slot, which is nothing to complain about. It adds depth where they could use a little.
Renardo Green in pick No. 69 is the kind of reach that only looks good if he outplays it. Useful depth more than a marquee fix.
Max Melton slid further than he should have, and slot 88 is lovely value for the cornerback. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
A tidy little value on Trey Benson in Round 3, Pick 27, a step better than break-even. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
They read the board right and Mike Sainristil was the payoff at the 91st overall pick. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
A premium they did not need to pay, Michael Pratt a notch or two before his time. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Value with a capital V on Theo Johnson in pick 138, a genuine coup. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Tykee Smith is a better player than No. 169 suggests; smart patience, rewarded. A want more than a need, though you can never have too many.
