You could see the war room lean forward. Karene Reid at pick 219 is the sort of fall that does not happen, except it just did. Nothing here to lose sleep over; call it a B-.
Thornton Jr. has a lot of ground to make up just to look fairly priced. They covered a lot of ground and still skipped interior defensive lineman, which is a strange place to end up.
Good work on the whole, with interior defensive lineman the one box left unchecked.
Pick-by-Pick
In pick No. 3 they get a plug-and-play piece up front, reach and all.
Circle this one: James Pearce Jr. at pick 40 is a fall that decides a draft. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Colston Loveland at the 71st overall pick is daylight robbery; nobody expected him to last. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
A tidy bit of business in slot 84, where Malachi Moore graded well above the range. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
A wild overpay on Dont'e Thornton Jr. in the Round 4 slot, the sort that defines a class for the wrong reasons. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Jordan James in Round 4, Pick 24 is a gift, value that borders on unfair. A need, and now a little less of one.
Chandler Rivers in the 143rd pick is a reach so steep the board needed a second look to believe it. Useful body for a position without much behind the starter.
Logan Jones at No. 192 is the sort of value that quietly wins a weekend. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
DJ Campbell in pick 206 is the kind of reach that only looks good if he outplays it. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Karene Reid in No. 219 is the kind of fall that makes a whole class. A minor itch, scratched.
They robbed the room for Raheim Sanders here, a fall nobody at the table saw coming. It fills a real need, too.
They talked themselves into Luke Lachey at pick No. 236, and the board did not agree. The roster fit checks out.
