The board owed the Packers one, and it paid up: Danny Stutsman, the No. 86 name on the board, sitting there at No. 159 like a gift left on the doorstep.
They will need Griffith to outplay his draft slot in a hurry to justify it. They will regret leaving edge rusher for another day if the season turns on it.
Bottom line, more hits than misses and a roster nudged the right way.
Pick-by-Pick
Quietly one of the better values of the day, Jahdae Barron at pick 24. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
The board had Tyler Warren higher than the 56th pick, and the tight end fell to them anyway. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
No edge and no loss on Charles Grant in No. 88; it is a wash and a sensible one. A need, and now a little less of one.
A offensive lineman of that caliber at Round 4, Pick 24 is the definition of value, full stop. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
Danny Stutsman in the Round 5 slot should not have been possible, and that is the whole point. It adds depth where they could use a little.
Dont'e Thornton Jr. at the 199th overall pick is daylight robbery; nobody expected him to last. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
A premium they did not need to pay, Garrett Dellinger a notch or two before his time. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
Thor Griffith in slot 250 is a bet on their own eyes over everyone else's grade. It fills a real need, too.
