The best pick of the weekend was also the simplest. The Falcons watched Blake Watson slide 26 picks past his grade and did not hesitate. It does the job without flash, and the B- reflects it.
They covered a lot of ground and still skipped quarterback, which is a strange place to end up. Job largely done: offensive lineman settled and 4 of 8 of the wish list covered. Building through the lines is a philosophy, and they stuck to it.
A tidy weekend of work that should hold up just fine.
Pick-by-Pick
In the 8th pick they get a disruptor off the edge. A clean fit for the roster.
Value with a capital V on Brian Thomas Jr. in No. 43, a genuine coup. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Caelen Carson in the Round 3 slot lands just on the right side of the ledger. It adds depth where they could use a little.
Dominick Puni at the 109th overall pick is a sensible buy, a touch better than market for the offensive lineman. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Javion Cohen in Round 5, Pick 9 is fair value, right on his grade. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Good price on Aki Ogunbiyi in pick No. 189, a hair ahead of his grade with no real quibbles. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
They let Christian Jones come to them and pounced at pick 201. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Blake Watson at slot 244 is daylight robbery; nobody expected him to last. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
