Start where it matters. The Bears took Caleb Williams to run the offense for the next decade, and every other decision this weekend bends around that one. It does the job without flash, and the B- reflects it.
If this class has a fault line, it runs straight through edge rusher. On value alone, Dixon makes the weekend a net positive. The trades cost them a sliver of value they did not need to spend.
The hoard sets up next April more than it helps this September.
A tidy weekend of work that should hold up just fine.
Pick-by-Pick
In the 1st overall pick they get a long-term answer under center. A clean fit for the roster.
In slot 28 they get a potential shutdown corner at fair value. Exactly the need they had to hit.
No edge and no loss on Ricky Pearsall in pick 60; it is a wash and a sensible one. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
A tidy bit of business in Round 3, Pick 11, where Javon Bullard graded well above the range. Depth more than a fix, but depth they can use.
The board had Brenden Rice higher than the Round 4 slot, and the wide receiver fell to them anyway. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
Matt Goncalves slipping to the 123rd pick is the kind of luck good rooms make for themselves. It fills a real need, too.
They paid sticker price for Isaiah Adams in pick No. 129, and that is fine. The roster fit checks out.
They let Jaylin Simpson come to them and pounced at No. 143. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
They stopped a slide they were happy to see, landing Johnny Dixon in the 198th overall pick. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
