After circling the position for what felt like forever, the Commanders committed. Drake Maye is the quarterback now, and the roster gets built to his timeline. For now it grades a C+, with the swing picks left to settle the rest.
Every board in the league had Logan Jr. lower, and that gap is the story. They lost the exchange badly enough to drag the whole class down. They covered a lot of ground and still skipped running back, which is a strange place to end up.
Pratt falling to them is the kind of break a good board is built to catch.
If Drake Maye and a couple of the gambles land, hindsight will be kinder than this grade.
Pick-by-Pick
In No. 5 they get a franchise quarterback. A clean fit for the roster.
They took Jeremiah Trotter Jr. at par in the Round 2 slot, which is nothing to complain about. It adds depth where they could use a little.
The board had cheaper options than Kingsley Suamataia at pick 48, and it noticed. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
A tidy little value on Cooper DeJean in the 66th overall pick, a step better than break-even. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
By-the-book stuff, Devontez Walker at slot 100 squarely in line with his ranking. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Value with a capital V on Michael Pratt in the 102nd pick, a genuine coup. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
They talked themselves into Ben Sinnott at pick No. 139, and the board did not agree. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
They left a pile of value on the table to take Kaimon Rucker this early at Round 6, Pick 5. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
The board screamed and they did not listen, reaching into the next round for Kenny Logan Jr.. A minor itch, scratched.
