You build a draft on nights like this. Bo Nix had no business being available in pick 97, and the Eagles did the only sane thing and turned in the card.
The dealing is the wound this class cannot quite close. The Colson pick is fine in a vacuum, less so with interior defensive lineman and tight end still on the board. If this class has a fault line, it runs straight through interior defensive lineman.
The verdict is not kind, and fairly so; this class has a hill to climb.
Pick-by-Pick
In No. 22 they get a lockdown presence outside. Exactly the need they had to hit.
Jordan Morgan at the Round 1 slot is neither steal nor reach, just the going rate. A need, and now a little less of one.
In pick 30 they get a weapon on the perimeter at fair value. It fills the loudest need on the roster.
Brandon Dorlus at pick No. 50 is right where the board had him, plain and simple. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
A straight-up fair deal on Edgerrin Cooper at the 54th overall pick, value and slot in agreement. It adds depth where they could use a little.
Of all the spots to shop, they chose linebacker. Junior Colson in slot 92 leaves interior defensive lineman and tight end for later.
Sedrick Van Pran at the 94th pick is a sensible buy, a touch better than market for the offensive lineman. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
They robbed the room for Bo Nix here, a fall nobody at the table saw coming. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
The eyebrow-raiser of the weekend. They went TE-EDGE with Cade Stover while clear needs at interior defensive lineman and tight end sat open.
They read the board right and Ainias Smith was the payoff at the 131st overall pick. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Christian Haynes in slot 133 is a gift, value that borders on unfair. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
They let Cole Bishop come to them and pounced at the 137th pick. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
You do not let a cornerback like Jarrian Jones reach the Round 5 slot and blink. They did not. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Steal is underselling it; Isaiah Adams at No. 172 is a heist with the alarm still ringing. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
A slide stopped in pick No. 178, with Cody Schrader worth more than the price. It fills a real need, too.
Jontrey Hunter in Round 7, Pick 23 should not have been possible, and that is the whole point. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
