The best pick of the weekend was also the simplest. The Cowboys watched Jahdae Barron slide 156 picks past his grade and did not hesitate. A dependable weekend that grades out a B.
That wide receiver hole did not close this weekend, and it was the biggest one on the wall. Cornerback is handled and the depth chart looks a good deal healthier for it.
The weekend tilted hard toward the defense.
In sum, a sturdy weekend with one asterisk, the wide receiver spot they never got to.
Pick-by-Pick
In pick No. 12 they get a sticky cover corner, and a steal at that. The biggest hole, addressed.
A running back of that caliber at No. 44 is the definition of value, full stop. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
Walter Nolen at the Round 3 slot is a first-round grade at a bargain-bin price, no notes. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Somehow Wyatt Milum was still sitting there in Round 5, Pick 11, and they pounced on premier offensive lineman value. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Jalon Walker in the 168th overall pick is the kind of fall that makes a whole class. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Jahdae Barron in slot 170 is a gift, value that borders on unfair. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Alfred Collins at the 173rd pick is the steal of the weekend, a first-round talent at a bargain-bin price. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
You do not let an offensive lineman like Dylan Fairchild reach pick 186 and blink. They did not. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Circle this one: Kyle Kennard at the 209th pick is a fall that decides a draft. Useful body for a position without much behind the starter.
Oronde Gadsden II in Round 7, Pick 32 should not have been possible, and that is the whole point. A need, and now a little less of one.
