The rest of the league will want that one back. Tahj Washington tumbling to the Eagles in slot 210 is a gift they did not have to think twice about. Call it a sensible B-, earned the boring way.
The Wilson pick reads as want over need, and the roster will feel it at edge rusher, interior defensive lineman and other spots. That edge rusher hole did not close this weekend, and it was the biggest one on the wall.
Job largely done: cornerback settled and 5 of 9 of the wish list covered.
Good work on the whole, with edge rusher the one box left unchecked.
Pick-by-Pick
In pick 22 they get a ballhawk on the outside at fair value. It fills the loudest need on the roster.
A tidy little value on Edgerrin Cooper in slot 50, a step better than break-even. It thickens a room that could stand to be thicker.
A surprising call. With edge rusher, interior defensive lineman and other spots still to address, they spent No. 53 on Payton Wilson, a linebacker they were not short of.
Quietly one of the better values of the day, Dadrion Taylor-Demerson at the Round 3 slot. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
Tyrone Tracy Jr. is a better player than Round 5, Pick 25 suggests; smart patience, rewarded. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Walter Rouse at pick No. 171 is the sort of value that quietly wins a weekend. A need, and now a little less of one.
A slide stopped in the 172nd pick, with Tykee Smith worth more than the price. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
They took Daijun Edwards at par in the 187th overall pick, which is nothing to complain about. The roster fit checks out.
They barely believed it either: Tahj Washington still on the board at No. 210. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
