Good, not great, for the Packers: B-.

When the story of this class is written, it opens with Jalyx Hunt at slot 126, a reach of 25 spots that the board flatly disagrees with.

A whole weekend of picks and tight end is somehow still a want. Job largely done: edge rusher settled and 7 of 8 of the wish list covered.

The trade work was a quiet net positive.

In short, they left a little better than they arrived, which is the whole idea.

Pick-by-Pick

R1.26 · Pick 26 · Cooper DeJean · CB · rank 26
In No. 26 they get an island corner. It fills the loudest need on the roster.
R2.9 · Pick 41 · Jordan Morgan · OT · rank 37
Jordan Morgan in pick No. 41 is fine work, a shade of surplus and no downside. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
R2.26 · Pick 58 · Payton Wilson · LB · rank 57
Payton Wilson in slot 58 is fair value, right on his grade. Useful depth more than a marquee fix.
R3.25 · Pick 88 · Calen Bullock · S · rank 83
Nothing to complain about; Calen Bullock went a shade earlier than his grade, which is fine. A minor need, but a need all the same.
R3.26 · Pick 89 · Javon Baker · WR · rank 91
Javon Baker in the 89th overall pick is exactly on the number, no argument either way. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
R3.28 · Pick 91 · Zak Zinter · OG · rank 105
They paid up for Zak Zinter at pick 91 when waiting would have done the job. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
R4.26 · Pick 126 · Jalyx Hunt · DE-EDGE · rank 151
Value said wait; Jalyx Hunt in Round 4, Pick 26 says they were not listening. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
R5.33 · Pick 169 · Jordan Jefferson · DT · rank 183
Jordan Jefferson in pick No. 169 is the kind of reach that only looks good if he outplays it. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
R6.27 · Pick 202 · Jaylan Ford · LB · rank 205
They took Jaylan Ford at par in pick 202, which is nothing to complain about. Pure best-available; the position was not exactly begging.
R6.44 · Pick 219 · Evan Williams · S · rank 214
Fair-plus on Evan Williams, a quiet win that adds up over a draft. They doubled down on a strength rather than a need.
R6.45 · Pick 220 · Frank Gore Jr. · RB · rank 226
A market-rate running back, with the board and the slot shaking hands on Frank Gore Jr.. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
R7.25 · Pick 245 · Sam Hartman · QB · rank 258
They paid a round early for Sam Hartman in No. 245, more than the board wanted. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
R7.35 · Pick 255 · Tyler Owens · S · rank 255
Tyler Owens at the 255th pick is neither steal nor reach, just the going rate. A luxury on a unit that was already in good shape.
