They finally answered the question that shadows every other one. Drake Maye is the Commanders' quarterback, full stop.
The Jones pick is the one they will point to when this weekend is judged. They covered a lot of ground and still skipped wide receiver, which is a strange place to end up.
Bottom line, more hits than misses and a roster nudged the right way.
Pick-by-Pick
In pick 2 they get a franchise quarterback at fair value. A real need, handled.
They read the board right and Tyler Guyton was the payoff at No. 36. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Fair-plus on Ja'Tavion Sanders, a quiet win that adds up over a draft. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Good price on Christian Haynes in slot 67, a hair ahead of his grade with no real quibbles. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Quietly one of the better values of the day, Jonah Elliss at the Round 3 slot. A need, and now a little less of one.
They took Will Shipley at par in the 101st pick, which is nothing to complain about. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
They paid sticker price for Tommy Eichenberg in Round 5, Pick 2, and that is fine. Not urgent, but hardly pointless.
A cornerback of that caliber at the 178th overall pick is the definition of value, full stop. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
A reasonable price with a little left over, Josh Proctor in Round 7, Pick 2. It thickens a room that could stand to be thicker.
