You could see the war room lean forward. Zakhari Franklin at slot 245 is the sort of fall that does not happen, except it just did. Good, not great, and the B says as much.
They covered a lot of ground and still skipped quarterback, which is a strange place to end up. A modest surplus at the table, banked quietly. Wide receiver was the priority and it is no longer a question, which is most of the job.
Solid rather than spectacular, and there is nothing wrong with that.
Pick-by-Pick
In Round 1, Pick 24 they get an island corner at fair value. The biggest hole, addressed.
By-the-book stuff, T'Vondre Sweat at pick No. 56 squarely in line with his ranking. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
Tykee Smith at slot 87 jumps the queue by a touch more than is comfortable. A quiet depth add at a thin-ish spot.
Aki Ogunbiyi at the 174th pick is neither steal nor reach, just the going rate. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
No edge and no loss on Omar Speights in No. 212; it is a wash and a sensible one. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
They will replay Zakhari Franklin at pick 245 for years; that is how good the value is. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
