Somewhere a general manager is explaining how Tylan Grable got past him. The Chiefs do not have to explain a thing at the 252nd overall pick. Call it a sensible B, earned the boring way.
They covered a lot of ground and still skipped tight end, which is a strange place to end up. The roster is better shaped than it was, with wide receiver chief among the fixes.
Good work on the whole, with tight end the one box left unchecked.
Pick-by-Pick
In the 32nd pick they get a matchup problem out wide. It fills the loudest need on the roster.
Payton Wilson at No. 64 nudges the ledger their way without any fuss. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
A clean, defensible pick in the 100th overall pick with a little surplus value in Khyree Jackson. Useful body for a position without much behind the starter.
They took Christian Jones at par in pick 132, which is nothing to complain about. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
No edge and no loss on Dylan Laube in pick No. 159; it is a wash and a sensible one. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
Good price on Kamal Hadden in slot 173, a hair ahead of his grade with no real quibbles. A want dressed up as a pick, at a spot they had covered.
Ryan Flournoy at Round 7, Pick 2 is a first-round grade at a bargain-bin price, no notes. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
You do not let an offensive lineman like Tylan Grable reach the Round 7 slot and blink. They did not. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
