Call it larceny. Luke McCaffrey sat on the board until the 173rd pick, and the Chiefs did not need to be asked twice.
They punted on tight end, and it is the miss that keeps the grade honest. The Brian Robinson deal gives the class an established piece to lean on.
On the needs board they went 5 of 8, with wide receiver the one that mattered most.
Solid rather than spectacular, and there is nothing wrong with that.
Pick-by-Pick
Kamari Lassiter at the Round 2 slot is right where the board had him, plain and simple. A minor need, but a need all the same.
By-the-book stuff, Ruke Orhorhoro at Round 2, Pick 32 squarely in line with his ranking. The roster fit checks out.
Gabriel Murphy in slot 95 lands just on the right side of the ledger. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
Good price on Isaac Guerendo in pick No. 132, a hair ahead of his grade with no real quibbles. It fills a real need, too.
Good things come to war rooms that wait, and Nehemiah Pritchett at No. 159 is the proof. Insurance at a position that did not really ask for it.
They will replay Luke McCaffrey at the 173rd overall pick for years; that is how good the value is. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Quietly one of the better values of the day, Nathaniel Watson at the 222nd pick. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
A straight-up fair deal on Tyrice Knight at pick 252, value and slot in agreement. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
