The Chiefs spent real capital to be 29 picks early on Tylan Grable, and the board is going to hold them to it.
They will answer for taking DT-EDGE early while quarterback, running back and other spots went begging. Leaving quarterback unaddressed is the roster risk they will have to answer for in the fall.
A modest surplus at the table, banked quietly.
A competent weekend that does not make headlines and does not need to.
Pick-by-Pick
Fair-plus on Tyler Guyton, a quiet win that adds up over a draft. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
A reach on Xavier Legette in the 64th overall pick; the board had better options right there. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
The needs board was loud and they turned it down, spending Round 3, Pick 32 on Maason Smith with quarterback, running back and other spots unsolved.
They took Nehemiah Pritchett at par in pick 131, which is nothing to complain about. A quiet depth add at a thin-ish spot.
By-the-book stuff, Dallin Holker at pick No. 158 squarely in line with his ranking. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Nothing to complain about; Luke McCaffrey went a shade earlier than his grade, which is fine. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
A reach for Jaylan Ford in pick 179; a little patience would have been rewarded. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
A big swing on Edefuan Ulofoshio at the Round 7 slot, well ahead of any board in the building. A need, and now a little less of one.
They talked themselves into Tylan Grable at slot 252, and the board did not agree. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
