The real work happened on the phones. The Chiefs fleeced their trade partners, turning their picks into a noticeably bigger pile than they started with. One of the weekend's best, top to bottom, and a A- to show for it.
For all the activity, offensive lineman went untouched, which is hard to explain. Getting Jones where they did is the sort of value that quietly makes a class.
In short, they turned a good board into a better roster, and it shows.
Pick-by-Pick
Xavier Legette in pick No. 64 is early enough to raise a brow, if not a full objection. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Blake Corum slipping to No. 95 is the kind of luck good rooms make for themselves. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
A market-rate tight end, with the board and the slot shaking hands on Theo Johnson. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Luke McCaffrey at pick 158 is right where the board had him, plain and simple. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
The board fumbled Jarrian Jones all the way to slot 172, and they scooped it up. Depth more than a fix, but depth they can use.
Edefuan Ulofoshio at the Round 7 slot is neither steal nor reach, just the going rate. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
