Jones should have been long gone. The Chiefs pounced, and earned a A-.

The real work happened on the phones. The Chiefs fleeced their trade partners, turning their picks into a noticeably bigger pile than they started with. One of the weekend's best, top to bottom, and a A- to show for it.

For all the activity, offensive lineman went untouched, which is hard to explain. Getting Jones where they did is the sort of value that quietly makes a class.

In short, they turned a good board into a better roster, and it shows.

Pick-by-Pick

R2.32 · Pick 64 · Xavier Legette · WR · rank 74
Xavier Legette in pick No. 64 is early enough to raise a brow, if not a full objection. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
R3.32 · Pick 95 · Blake Corum · RB · rank 86
Blake Corum slipping to No. 95 is the kind of luck good rooms make for themselves. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
R4.31 · Pick 131 · Theo Johnson · TE · rank 136
A market-rate tight end, with the board and the slot shaking hands on Theo Johnson. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
R5.22 · Pick 158 · Luke McCaffrey · WR · rank 165
Luke McCaffrey at pick 158 is right where the board had him, plain and simple. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
R5.36 · Pick 172 · Jarrian Jones · CB · rank 149
The board fumbled Jarrian Jones all the way to slot 172, and they scooped it up. Depth more than a fix, but depth they can use.
R7.32 · Pick 252 · Edefuan Ulofoshio · LB · rank 250
Edefuan Ulofoshio at the Round 7 slot is neither steal nor reach, just the going rate. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
