The Blake Watson pick is the one that will follow the Chiefs into the fall. They took him 35 spots ahead of his grade, and the board is not shy about saying so.
They punted on tight end, and it is the miss that keeps the grade honest. They will answer for taking cornerback early while tight end and quarterback went begging. A modest surplus at the table, banked quietly.
They left with wide receiver solved and the rest of the wish list mostly ticked off.
In sum, a sturdy weekend with one asterisk, the tight end spot they never got to.
Pick-by-Pick
A tidy little value on Payton Wilson in the 60th pick, a step better than break-even. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Kiran Amegadjie in pick No. 64 is fair value, right on his grade. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
They took Khyree Jackson at par in pick 95, which is nothing to complain about. It thickens a room that could stand to be thicker.
Hard to square with the roster. With positions of obvious need still on the board, Jarrian Jones adds a cornerback and leaves tight end and quarterback untouched.
By-the-book stuff, Nelson Ceaser at slot 159 squarely in line with his ranking. The roster fit checks out.
A wild overpay on Ryan Flournoy in Round 5, Pick 37, the sort that defines a class for the wrong reasons. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
