Somewhere a general manager is explaining how Johnny Dixon got past him. The Chiefs do not have to explain a thing at pick No. 221. Good, not great, and the B says as much.
They will regret leaving tight end for another day if the season turns on it. The Guerendo pick is the one the value grade keeps tripping over. They were the ones paying the moving tax this weekend.
On the needs board they went 5 of 8, with wide receiver the one that mattered most.
Not a headline-grabber, but a perfectly good weekend's work.
Pick-by-Pick
Cooper Beebe at No. 69 is right where the board had him, plain and simple. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
A tidy bit of business in the Round 3 slot, where Khyree Jackson graded well above the range. It thickens a room that could stand to be thicker.
They liked Isaac Guerendo enough to skip the value, taking him in pick 112. A need, and now a little less of one.
They went early on Luke McCaffrey in slot 132, and the value did not follow. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
They paid sticker price for Tommy Eichenberg in the 140th overall pick, and that is fine. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Trente Jones at pick No. 182 is a clear overpay, with better names still on the board. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
A premium they did not need to pay, Myles Cole a notch or two before his time. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
A reach for Tylan Grable in Round 6, Pick 44; a little patience would have been rewarded. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
The board fumbled Johnny Dixon all the way to the 221st overall pick, and they scooped it up. A luxury on a unit that was already in good shape.
