You can fall in love with a player. You are not supposed to marry him in the wrong round. The Chiefs did exactly that with Donovan Jennings in slot 210.
They punted on quarterback, and it is the miss that keeps the grade honest. The trade work was a quiet net positive. The hoard sets up next April more than it helps this September.
Good work on the whole, with quarterback the one box left unchecked.
Pick-by-Pick
Chop Robinson in slot 34 is fair value, right on his grade. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
A tidy little value on Jeremiah Trotter Jr. in No. 64, a step better than break-even. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
Good price on Tykee Smith in the 100th overall pick, a hair ahead of his grade with no real quibbles. A quiet depth add at a thin-ish spot.
They liked Ben Sinnott enough to skip the value, taking him in pick No. 133. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
No drama and no debate, Cody Schrader went about where he belonged in the Round 5 slot. The roster fit checks out.
Jordan Jefferson at pick 165 is a clear overpay, with better names still on the board. A need, and now a little less of one.
Isaiah Williams in pick No. 172 is a bet on their own eyes over everyone else's grade. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
A swing that ignored the value entirely, Donovan Jennings well ahead of where he belonged. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Tanner McLachlan in the Round 7 slot is early enough to raise a brow, if not a full objection. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
