The tape said wait; the Chiefs did not. Demani Richardson went at slot 257, a good 43 picks before the board was ready. No fireworks, but a solid B-.
The quarterback spot stays a question, and it was the one they most needed an answer at. They left with wide receiver solved and the rest of the wish list mostly ticked off. Quantity was the play, for better or worse.
The dealing was even money, start to finish.
All told, a draft that does its job without fuss, and there is real value in that.
Pick-by-Pick
A reach on Braden Fiske in Round 2, Pick 5; the board had better options right there. A need, and now a little less of one.
Fair-plus on Kingsley Suamataia, a quiet win that adds up over a draft. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
They went early on Isaac Guerendo in the Round 3 slot, and the value did not follow. The roster fit checks out.
No edge and no loss on Nehemiah Pritchett in slot 133; it is a wash and a sensible one. It adds depth where they could use a little.
Dallin Holker at pick 139 is a steep price for a hunch, hard to square with any board. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Luke McCaffrey in pick No. 158 is fair value, right on his grade. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Layden Robinson at No. 172 is neither steal nor reach, just the going rate. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Edefuan Ulofoshio at pick No. 253 is a sound buy, the sort that quietly helps a class. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Ethan Driskell at the Round 7 slot is a sensible buy, a touch better than market for the offensive lineman. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Demani Richardson in pick 257 is a bet on their own eyes over everyone else's grade. Depth more than a fix, but depth they can use.
