You can fall in love with a player. You are not supposed to marry him in the wrong round. The Chiefs did exactly that with Decamerion Richardson in the 252nd overall pick. Solid and sensible more than spectacular: a B-.
They will answer for taking DT-EDGE early while quarterback, running back and other spots went begging. They punted on quarterback, and it is the miss that keeps the grade honest.
A tidy weekend of work that should hold up just fine.
Pick-by-Pick
In Round 1, Pick 32 they get a weapon on the perimeter. Exactly the need they had to hit.
A conviction pick on Cooper Beebe at the Round 2 slot that the board grades a round light. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
The eyebrow-raiser of the weekend. They went DT-EDGE with Maason Smith while clear needs at quarterback, running back and other spots sat open.
Christian Jones in the 131st overall pick is fair value, right on his grade. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Dallin Holker at pick 158 is right where the board had him, plain and simple. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
A clean, defensible pick in the 172nd pick with a little surplus value in Luke McCaffrey. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Decamerion Richardson at the 252nd overall pick is the pick scouts circle, and not in a good way. A minor need, but a need all the same.
