There is conviction, and then there is this. The Cowboys took Kimani Vidal a full 37 picks ahead of where the board had him, an overdraft steep enough that it colors the whole weekend. They moved the roster forward and banked a B for it.
If one pick saves this weekend, it is Pritchett. Leaving quarterback unaddressed is the roster risk they will have to answer for in the fall. They left with wide receiver solved and the rest of the wish list mostly ticked off.
The trenches got the money picks, top to bottom.
All told, a solid class that does its job everywhere but quarterback.
Pick-by-Pick
A straight-up fair deal on Troy Fautanu at No. 24, value and slot in agreement. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
They did well to land Edgerrin Cooper in slot 56, just ahead of his grade. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
A slide stopped in the 87th pick, with Austin Booker worth more than the price. It adds depth where they could use a little.
Somehow Nehemiah Pritchett was still sitting there in Round 5, Pick 38, and they pounced on premier cornerback value. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
They talked themselves into Kimani Vidal at the 216th overall pick, and the board did not agree. It fills a real need, too.
Ryan Flournoy in pick 233 is a gift, value that borders on unfair. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Nathan Thomas at the Round 7 slot is money in the bank, a offensive lineman taken below his worth. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
