The best pick of the weekend was also the simplest. The Cowboys watched Cornelius Johnson slide 27 picks past his grade and did not hesitate. It does the job without flash, and the B reflects it.
They are betting Cole proves the room right and everyone else wrong. They covered a lot of ground and still skipped quarterback, which is a strange place to end up.
Nothing here to lose sleep over, and plenty to feel decent about.
Pick-by-Pick
In Round 1, Pick 24 they get a blindside protector. It fills the loudest need on the roster.
Edgerrin Cooper at pick 56 is money in the bank, a linebacker taken below his worth. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Nice patience on Mike Sainristil, who had no business lasting to pick No. 87. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
A wild overpay on Myles Cole in the Round 5 slot, the sort that defines a class for the wrong reasons. A quiet depth add at a thin-ish spot.
Somehow Cornelius Johnson was still sitting there in slot 216, and they pounced on premier wide receiver value. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
They reached a country mile for Kimani Vidal at No. 233, and the board is aghast. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Trey Knox in the 244th pick should not have been possible, and that is the whole point. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
