After circling the position for what felt like forever, the Patriots committed. Drake Maye is the quarterback now, and the roster gets built to his timeline. It does the job without flash, and the B+ reflects it.
They banked enough surplus on Hadden to cover a lot of smaller sins. Every deal seemed to tilt their way, which is not luck.
They will regret leaving interior defensive lineman for another day if the season turns on it.
Good work on the whole, with interior defensive lineman the one box left unchecked.
Pick-by-Pick
In pick 6 they get a passer to set the clock by at fair value.
They let JC Latham come to them and pounced at Round 2, Pick 2. It fills a real need, too.
The board had Troy Franklin higher than the Round 2 slot, and the wide receiver fell to them anyway. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Good things come to war rooms that wait, and Chris Braswell at the 68th overall pick is the proof. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
They will replay Roman Wilson at slot 104 for years; that is how good the value is. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
They did well to land Javon Foster in pick No. 136, just ahead of his grade. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
Kamal Hadden at the 182nd pick is a first-round grade at a bargain-bin price, no notes. A quiet depth add at a thin-ish spot.
Quietly one of the better values of the day, Chau Smith-Wade at No. 185. Insurance at a position that did not really ask for it.
A top-tier cornerback at a bargain, Daijahn Anthony in the Round 7 slot, plain and simple. A want dressed up as a pick, at a spot they had covered.
