Cleveland Browns

The Browns let Slaughter fall and pounced. Final grade: B-.

Every so often the board makes a mistake, and the Browns were there to profit. Jake Slaughter, the No. 54 name on the board, should have been long gone before the Round 3 slot. Nothing here to lose sleep over; call it a B-.

The trade table is where this weekend went wrong. That quarterback hole did not close this weekend, and it was the biggest one on the wall.

Not a headline-grabber, but a perfectly good weekend's work.

Pick-by-Pick

R1.24 · Pick 24 · Caleb Lomu · OT · rank 28
No drama and no debate, Caleb Lomu went about where he belonged in pick No. 24. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
R1.26 · Pick 26 · Chris Brazzell II · WR · rank 29
In the 26th pick they get a difference-maker at receiver. The biggest hole, addressed.
R2.15 · Pick 47 · Emmanuel Pregnon · OG · rank 39
They read the board right and Emmanuel Pregnon was the payoff at the 47th overall pick. The roster fit checks out.
R3.6 · Pick 70 · Malachi Fields · WR · rank 72
Malachi Fields at pick 70 is neither steal nor reach, just the going rate. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
R3.27 · Pick 91 · Jake Slaughter · C · rank 54
Jake Slaughter in the Round 3 slot is a gift, value that borders on unfair. A need, and now a little less of one.
R4.7 · Pick 107 · Kamari Ramsey · S · rank 73
Kamari Ramsey at slot 107 is the steal of the weekend, a first-round talent at a bargain-bin price. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
R4.13 · Pick 113 · Chandler Rivers · CB · rank 92
They robbed the room for Chandler Rivers here, a fall nobody at the table saw coming. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
R5.1 · Pick 141 · Gracen Halton · DL · rank 142
A straight-up fair deal on Gracen Halton at Round 5, Pick 1, value and slot in agreement. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
R5.6 · Pick 146 · Kaytron Allen · RB · rank 143
Kaytron Allen in No. 146 is fine work, a shade of surplus and no downside. It fills a real need, too.
R5.9 · Pick 149 · Dametrious Crownover · OT · rank 139
Good things come to war rooms that wait, and Dametrious Crownover at Round 5, Pick 9 is the proof. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
R6.25 · Pick 206 · Jeff Caldwell · WR · rank 184
The board fumbled Jeff Caldwell all the way to the Round 6 slot, and they scooped it up. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
R7.32 · Pick 248 · Jack Kelly · LB · rank 257
They liked Jack Kelly enough to skip the value, taking him in the 248th pick. A quiet depth add at a thin-ish spot.
