The one hole that towered over the rest is filled. The Patriots spent their marquee pick on Jayden Daniels, and for the first time in a while there is a real answer at quarterback.
The trade ledger is the best part of the whole weekend. They will need Amegadjie to outplay his draft slot in a hurry to justify it.
The interior defensive lineman hole is the one line item this class does not answer. The Cypress II steal is the beam this whole class leans on.
In sum, a sturdy weekend with one asterisk, the interior defensive lineman spot they never got to.
Pick-by-Pick
In No. 7 they get the arm they will build around. A real need, handled.
No edge and no loss on Ladd McConkey in pick 34; it is a wash and a sensible one. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
A reach on Kiran Amegadjie in the 40th overall pick; the board had better options right there. A need, and now a little less of one.
Patrick Paul at pick No. 43 jumps the queue by a touch more than is comfortable. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
Ja'Lynn Polk at the Round 3 slot is money in the bank, a wide receiver taken below his worth. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Ja'Tavion Sanders in Round 3, Pick 4 is a bargain the rest of the room will envy. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
They liked Sedrick Van Pran enough to skip the value, taking him in the 80th pick. It fills a real need, too.
A premium they did not need to pay, Dylan Laube a notch or two before his time. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
Zion Tupuola-Fetui at Round 6, Pick 7 nudges the ledger their way without any fuss. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
They let Fentrell Cypress II come to them and pounced at No. 224. It adds depth where they could use a little.
