The move everyone will second-guess came early. The Ravens reached some 42 spots for George Gumbs Jr., and value like that does not grow back. It lands right in the middle: a C-, no more, no less.
They handed away value on the phones that the picks cannot earn back. They banked enough surplus on Hurst to cover a lot of smaller sins. The quarterback hole is the one line item this class does not answer.
If Kenyon Sadiq and a couple of the gambles land, hindsight will be kinder than this grade.
Pick-by-Pick
A market-rate tight end, with the board and the slot shaking hands on Kenyon Sadiq. The roster fit checks out.
Omar Cooper Jr. in the 45th pick is a bargain the rest of the room will envy. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Good price on Treydan Stukes in No. 77, a hair ahead of his grade with no real quibbles. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
A straight-up fair deal on Connor Lew at pick No. 80, value and slot in agreement. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Circle this one: Ted Hurst at the Round 4 slot is a fall that decides a draft. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
Gracen Halton in slot 116 is the kind of reach that only looks good if he outplays it. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Keyshaun Elliott at pick 119 is right where the board had him, plain and simple. A minor itch, scratched.
A wild overpay on George Gumbs Jr. in pick No. 154, the sort that defines a class for the wrong reasons. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
A quiet steal in No. 162: Isaiah World for less than the market said. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Good things come to war rooms that wait, and Demond Claiborne at the Round 5 slot is the proof. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
They paid a round early for Kaleb Elarms-Orr in the 174th overall pick, more than the board wanted. Pure best-available; the position was not exactly begging.
By-the-book stuff, Aaron Graves at Round 6, Pick 30 squarely in line with his ranking. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
