Call it larceny. Chau Smith-Wade sat on the board until the 158th overall pick, and the Dolphins did not need to be asked twice. A dependable weekend that grades out a B.
They will answer for taking OLB-EDGE early while quarterback went begging. They punted on quarterback, and it is the miss that keeps the grade honest.
They went 7 of 8 on their needs, which is most of what a draft is for. Value over need was the throughline, for better and worse.
Solid rather than spectacular, and there is nothing wrong with that.
Pick-by-Pick
In Round 1, Pick 31 they get a pocket-collapsing interior rusher, and a steal at that. It fills the loudest need on the roster.
They took Malachi Corley at par in slot 55, which is nothing to complain about. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Jeremiah Trotter Jr. in pick 94 is a gift, value that borders on unfair. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
A curious use of the Round 4 slot. Quarterback needed the pick; an OLB-EDGE in Javon Solomon did not.
They robbed the room for Will Shipley here, a fall nobody at the table saw coming. It fills a real need, too.

Circle this one: Trevor Keegan at No. 176 is a fall that decides a draft. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
Dwight McGlothern in the 184th overall pick should not have been possible, and that is the whole point. A want dressed up as a pick, at a spot they had covered.
The board fumbled Grayson Murphy all the way to No. 198, and they scooped it up. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Trey Knox at pick No. 241 is daylight robbery; nobody expected him to last. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
