Thirty-one other rooms let Calen Bullock slide, and the Patriots were the ones holding the card at pick 103. Highway robbery. It does the job without flash, and the B reflects it.

A whole weekend of picks and edge rusher is somehow still a want. Adding Josh Oliver by trade rounds out the weekend beyond the rookies.

All told, a draft that does its job without fuss, and there is real value in that.

Pick-by-Pick

R1.11 · Pick 11 · Olumuyiwa Fashanu · OT · rank 8
In No. 11 they get a building block for the line. A clean fit for the roster.
R2.2 · Pick 34 · J.J. McCarthy · QB · rank 29
J.J. McCarthy in the Round 2 slot is fine work, a shade of surplus and no downside. A need, and now a little less of one.
R3.4 · Pick 68 · Jermaine Burton · WR · rank 56
A slide stopped in slot 68, with Jermaine Burton worth more than the price. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
R4.3 · Pick 103 · Calen Bullock · S · rank 83
Circle this one: Calen Bullock at Round 4, Pick 3 is a fall that decides a draft. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
R4.8 · Pick 108 · Cedric Gray · LB · rank 114
No drama and no debate, Cedric Gray went about where he belonged in the 108th pick. It thickens a room that could stand to be thicker.
R4.29 · Pick 129 · Ben Sinnott · TE · rank 130
They paid sticker price for Ben Sinnott in the 129th overall pick, and that is fine. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
R5.1 · Pick 137 · Christian Jones · OT · rank 132
A clean, defensible pick in pick 137 with a little surplus value in Christian Jones. It fills a real need, too.
R6.5 · Pick 180 · Dillon Johnson · RB · rank 167
Good things come to war rooms that wait, and Dillon Johnson at pick No. 180 is the proof. The roster fit checks out.
R6.18 · Pick 193 · Curtis Jacobs · LB · rank 198
Curtis Jacobs at the Round 6 slot is neither steal nor reach, just the going rate. A want more than a need, though you can never have too many.
R7.11 · Pick 231 · Frank Gore Jr. · RB · rank 226
Good price on Frank Gore Jr. in slot 231, a hair ahead of his grade with no real quibbles. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
