The Packers put a flag in the ground for Jase McClellan, 28 picks before anyone else would have, and the value took the hit.
That edge rusher hole did not close this weekend, and it was the biggest one on the wall. They left with running back solved and the rest of the wish list mostly ticked off. The future picks help the war chest more than the win-now roster.
All told, a solid class that does its job everywhere but edge rusher.
Pick-by-Pick
In the Round 1 slot they get a weapon on the perimeter. A clean fit for the roster.
Cooper Beebe at pick 41 jumps the queue by a touch more than is comfortable. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
By-the-book stuff, Calen Bullock at slot 43 squarely in line with his ranking. A minor need, but a need all the same.
Sedrick Van Pran in the 53rd pick is the kind of reach that only looks good if he outplays it. It fills a real need, too.
They liked Tyler Davis enough to skip the value, taking him in the 82nd overall pick. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Good price on Smael Mondon Jr. in pick No. 109, a hair ahead of his grade with no real quibbles. Useful body for a position without much behind the starter.
Jack Nelson at pick No. 149 is neither steal nor reach, just the going rate. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
A reach on Carson Steele in the 217th pick; the board had better options right there. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Jase McClellan at the Round 6 slot is an overdraft of the loud, memorable kind. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
